Fur your information - Summer Safety

Updated: Aug 3, 2023

A guide to making your dog's life better and help you in strengthening the bond between you and your

best friend through practical information and real life experience.

Here we are getting ready to dive into the dog days of August and I thought I'd just remind you about keeping an eye on your best friend. Overheating and dehydration are important summer issues and your dog will tell you in their own way what's going on. Make sure they have plenty of water on hand all day and on those really hot days you can drop an ice cube into their water. If you ever feel that something is just not right, there are a few hints to help you.

If they have no appetite or are having diarrhea and vomiting, they are probably dehydrated. Also dark urine or lethargic behavior are clues that they might need help. If any of these symptoms or the others listed on the chart seem excessive, contact your vet right away. Hopefully, you will avoid these issues by making sure they drink lots of water, rest during the hottest part of the day and just have a great rest of the summer with your buddy. Play hard but play safe this month.
